Fun Ideas for Cardmaking with Spellbinders This is Life Collection

Hey Crafty Friends!
I’m excited to share a new favorite crafting collection with you today — the Spellbinders This Is Life collection. This line is full of quirky, snarky dies with coordinating sentiments that make bold, fun cards perfect for everyday greetings.

I’ve created five cards using this collection and put together a video showing how I assembled a couple of them. You can watch the video right here on the blog or click over to YouTube to see the full step-by-step.

How I Used the This Is Life Collection

This collection includes some wonderfully expressive die sets and sentiments that stand well on their own; no need for a lot of layers or complicated techniques. Here’s a breakdown of how I used them on each card:

Card 1

For this first card I used the Dumpster Fire die and coordinating sentiment.

  • Cut the dumpster shape and layered it onto a clean card base.
  • Added a bit of gold splatter paint for texture and interest. it helps reinforce the “chaotic but fun” vibe.
  • The bold sentiment really completes the look.

The great thing about this die set is that the shapes are simple but impactful. You can build a playful card with just a few supplies.

Card 2

The second version of the Dumpster Fire design uses the same die but adds a green shimmer ink splatter.

  • The color shift makes this card feel totally different from the first.
  • Same basic layout, different mood — this is a fun way to stretch one die without reinventing your design.

Card 3

For card three I kept the Dumpster Fire die and switched up the background texture with an abstract embossing folder.

  • I added copper glitter ink splatters to tie back into the fiery theme.
  • The result is still simple, but it’s got more depth and dimension.

Card 4

Next up I used the Favorite Side Effect die set — this one has fun, expressive shapes that pair perfectly with enamel embellishments.

  • I added some monster eyes for an extra playful look.
  • A clean white background helps the colored die pieces pop.

Card 5

For my final card I used the Favorite Side Effect dies again, but kept things bold and colorful.

  • The bright shimmer paper works great with this design.
  • Simple layers, big impact.

Final Thoughts

I love how versatile the This Is Life collection is:

  • You can make graphic, clean cards with minimal layers.
  • One die set goes a long way just by switching colors or little accents.
  • The expressive sentiments pull everything together with personality.
